What are the rules of that competition? May 23, 2014

How long can the book be--in other words, what length is allowed/ Published when--before which year? From what language or what languages? Are you going to translate the book, or are you looking for books already translated to nominate them?

You'll need contacts in any case, no matter what books -if any- that you find. You need an in and not one that qualifications or books will give you. It's a closed club unless things have (finally) changed.

If you want to be a translator for an EU institution May 23, 2014

you must learn to explain what you need properly.

E.g., whether you wish to become a permanent or a temporary official, and what are your languages.

I also cannot agree with the "closed club" remark - if you make the reserve list and there is an opening, and you are the best suited candidate, you will get the job. It is really that simple.

Oh--you meant books to prepare for the exam May 23, 2014

I get it now. I thought you were referring to a book translation competition, or contest.
