under frequency based load shedding When the load of the network increases, the generator(s) frequency declines (drops) a few hundredths of a Hetz. A relay that measures the grid frequency sheds (turns off) non-essential loads when the frequency drops by, say , 0.1 Hz from the nominal (50 or 60 - to 49.9 or 59.9). This is based on the fact that the grid frequency is the exactly same at any given moment and at any given spot on the grid.
