I guess 15-20 years ago translators' main tool was typewriter...
Then, it probably was harder to do teleworking. Now we can live or stay wherever we want and just need a good internet connection.

What Im really waiting for is the worldwide wireless connections to get as cheap as all the fixed ones and laptop battery to last at least 24 hours.

In fact, during the 10 years before I became an employed translator, I earned more as a typist.
Now as a freelancer I am earning 2-3 times more, depending on whether you count in my leisure time..
