Well... It was a quick association. I wouldn't really compare Solzhenytsyn and Kristofferson on the same level, but the latter doesn't really mention the cause, just the effect.
The former, by reason of the reality he lived in, uses the word "robbed" directly.

I understand that you are not putting them on the same level. Here is a little more information (for anyone who might be interested).
Actually, Kristofferson is referring to a very specific phenomenon (clear to people at the time). Yes, I was there.
That song was written around 1970 - the Hippy period. Hippies voluntarily freed themselves of possessions in order to pursue total freedom.

But look around the web for his other writings - he was a journalist possessed of quite a sharp pen.
I recently read a book about Polish pilots fighting in the RAF in the Battle of Britain. There is mention in the book of how Orwell was trying to make everyone see the deviousness and cruelty of Stalin, but his voice was lost in the midst of a general adulation for everything Russian at the time.

Recently, after a problem in another forum, Proz.com decided not to allow celebrations of national holidays any more. This is what I explained to those who took advantage of this topic to congratulate each other for July Fourth.
