Hello fellow translators,

I have to make a presentation in class about terminology management software. I am currently working with MemoQ and I have already covered some basic aspects of the software. Right now I cannot figure out what the difference between a CSV, a XLSX and a Multiterm file is.
How do you import them into other terminology management softwares and use them? It seems to be too complicated and cumbersome.

Thank you very much.

XLSX is a spreadsheet and it is an Excel file.

CSV ("comma separated values") is a spreadsheet-like file in which the cells are separated by commas, tabs, semi-colons or whathaveyou, and the cells usually have quotes around them. You can usually open a CSV file in Excel, but you can also open it in Notepad to see what it looks like.

Multiterm is the glossary format used by Trados. You generally need to have Trados and/or Multiterm installed to be able to view it properly, though other programs may be able to extract some data from it.
