In general, I do not offer MTPE services. So far, I have accepted last year one such job for an Italian agency on tourism. Anyway, I have been editing translations for over 25 years, isn’t this training enough to do MTPE?

I voted to check if the majority of people here are on my bandwagon Apr 27, 2024

And yes, they are. I guess anyone who has read my posts will know which one I voted for. I wonder how much those trainers charge for a comprehensive course and how many (beginner) translators they manage to lure into their nets

I have a TAUS certificate.
Just, what as good as all agencies are doing is not state-of-the-art-MTPE (ISO 18587). They just throw text in a generic MT tool and pass the output to translators for editing.
Real MTPE is something different. It ideally involves copy already drafted for MT purposes, and not all text categories are suitable for MT.

I don't think it's necessary and I don't offer it as a service.
In principle, it'll be the same as editing a human translation, but in practice it gives me a headache.
At the agency I used to proofread humans, and I knew all their foibles and quirks, and I learned a lot from them. The text would read as a comprehensive whole, all in the same style, whereas MT is just all over the place, you never know when some weird mistake might crop up.

Not necessary Apr 27, 2024

I mean I don’t love MTPE so much but gives me some bucks. The difficult part of it is to read the poem of instructions before starting the project. Punctuation mistakes are dangerous for our income. Just kidding anyway, give it a try!

I did a theoretical course on MTPE that took me 1 hour. It was free (included in my Trados package) and had zero relevance for my everyday translation/MTPE life, but it came with a nice label that I could paste into my email signature.

You don't need any course to learn to master MTPE. Just give yourself 6 months to become acquainted with it and learn to disover how you can use it as efficient as possible. And spend your money on a cheap professional MTPE subscription instead of som

You don't need any course to learn to master MTPE. Just give yourself 6 months to become acquainted with it and learn to disover how you can use it as efficient as possible. And spend your money on a cheap professional MTPE subscription instead of some irrelevant course that costs way too much money.
