I picked Legal because I think most clients will send some kind of terms and conditions, cookie policies etc. at some point, so pretty much all of us will have to translate Legal every now and then, no matter what we actually specialize in. | | | Peter Simon Madalmaad Local time: 10:18 inglise - ungari + ...
Although most people seem to need some legal documents to do things, at least if they move about or get contracted, etc., in my experience, the most wanted field is anything associated with medicine. After all, everybody gets afflicted with this or that at some point or other, needing medical help and medicines, very often across borders, inevitably leading to our expiration date sooner or later, but until then, medical translations are in very high demand. Doctors mostly tend to be busy and well-paid so it is we who are needed for those translations. ▲ Collapse | | | Lieven Malaise Belgia Local time: 10:18 Liige (2020) prantsuse - hollandi + ...
Doesn't the answer to this question very much depend on what a translator is willing to translate and on what project managers or direct clients are willing to assign to a certain translator? I don't really see the relevance of asking this question to individual translators, unless random guessing is the main goal.

The so-called translation market is made up of a variety of markets and is so big that I can’t knowingly answer this question as my experience is just my own. Of course, I know which fields I feel quite comfortable with and are required by my clients, but that’s all! | | | Daryo Suurbritannia Local time: 09:18 serbia - inglise + ... for some specific field in the translation business, so no "personal experience" ...
Again a rather pointless question, as it's irrelevant for an individual translator. And anyway varies depending on language pairs / countries / required quality etc.
What's relevant for an individual translator is not "the most wanted fields" but those he/she does best. Just one? How can there be just one? Surreal in this materialistic world.

Because, surely, only one can be the "most" ?
I'd be interested to know how "wanted" would be measured, though.
That said, it did make me realise my knowledge of markets I'm not involved with is quite pitiful.

There is most demand for cheap translation.
In my own experience, it's definitely medical, but that's not surprising given my profile. I think business/marketing/e-commerce texts used to be the biggest field, but it may be changing due to MT/AI. In any case, I'm happy with my background and experience because it helps me get many interesting and well-paid projects. | | | Samah A. Fattah | Mar 24, 2024 |

Dear Samah:
You should have mentioned MEDICAL. My specialty is LEGAL, but I am sure that the MEDICAL field is the most in-demand field in the English-Spanish pair ─ the busiest (most in-demand) pair in the world of translation. | | | Technical.... | Mar 25, 2024 |
...AND cheap, the ideal field for all, who can't get along with medical, financial, legal and literacy translations only. You don't need a technical background, just write whatever you want, nobody reads those manuals anyway. For patents the last exit always is KudoZ. Your agency will provide you with the necessary term list, translated and reviewed by other cheapies. Get networked with them, so that no experts can step in.

Most wanted translation field | Mar 25, 2024 |
I suppose that legal and general texts are the most commonly wanted texts to be translated, but there is also a widespread demand for the translation of texts in the field of AI and technology. | | | Lawyer, economist, psychologist | Mar 25, 2024 |
People who criticize our modern education system sometimes say that it has created crazy crowds of people who are lawyers, economists, and psychologists at the same time—and nobody wants them in the labor market. An interesting list: you sell things for money, market (or push through the media) what you or someone else sells for money, sue people for money, hope to win money by gaming, study how to make money. I guess it's all that matters today, whether within or outside the translation world | | | Railway translations | Mar 25, 2024 |
I only work in a tiny section of the whole translation marketplace so I have no idea what is most in demand.
There does seem to be a lot of demand for railway engineering translations in my pairs though (DE/NL-EN) - I have never sought this out as a specialism but it makes up a large proportion of my work. I think this could be a good specialism for technically minded translators looking for a direction. | | | Teemakohased leheküljed: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: In your experience, what is the most wanted field in the translation market?
