With the goals of further enabling knowledge sharing, and providing resources for the education of clients and translators, ProZ.com built a "Howto" section in which members have been able to publish original tips and content related to the field, for review by others. While this has been a useful resource, and many excellent contributions have been made, the technical presentation was poor (our fault!) and as a result, the resource was under-utilized. Therefore, we have undertaken a complete reconstruction of the area. It has been renamed "Articles Knowledgebase" section.
The new "Articles Knowledgebase"
Community Knowledge Sharing
In this new section, it is our goal to aggregate a comprehensive and multilingual collection of articles. The body of articles will in turn form the basis of a more complete community "knowledgebase", complete with contributions and other additions from ProZ.com members.
In other words, the Articles Knowledgebase is designed to be more than just a searchable directory of articles. It is also a platform for collecting and presenting information obtained from our whole community. Among its unique characteristics:
- Articles can be discussed among members in the forums
- Platinum members with special knowledge in the field can add "contribution" posts that, when vetted, appear after an article
- In many cases article authors are ProZ.com members, so it is possible to correspond directly with them via profile mail
- Members can recommend interesting articles to others on a scale of 1 to 5
- Lists of the most popular articles are displayed.
- If you find the knowledgebase lacking, it is possible to suggest that an article be written on a certain topic (These are called "calls for articles")
- It is possible to browse calls for articles; please consider posting one under an area in which you have special expertise
Another Avenue for Promoting Your Business
Sharing knowledge is not our only goal in the Articles Knowledgebase. We also see this section as another means of offering our members unique forms of promotion. ProZ.com is the most-visited portal in the translation industry, and this makes it possible for us to offer a high level of exposure to those who contribute articles to this shared knowledgebase.
Authors may select one of two copyright options. If an author opts to assign ProZ.com shared copyright--and retain the right to publish elsewhere--we offer attribution and a link. If an author assigns copyright to ProZ.com--retaining the right only to publish the article on his/her own site--we offer a full promotional package that includes:
- An "author" box (with optional photo), specifying the author's services
- Display among featured authors
- Optional links to the author's profile, home page and business,
- 2000 Browniz (good for platinum discounts)
- Rotation among featured articles on the ProZ.com home page (platinum only)
- Miscellaneous other promotional benefits
We want your feedback
The new section is online now. We invite your feedback. When you have a moment, please browse the articles already collected. If you think of an article that should be there but is not, please suggest it. If you have written articles in the past and own the content, please consider posting them. If you read an interesting article and have something to add, give the "contributions" function a try.

After you have familiarized yourself with the knowledgebase, please let us know what you like and what you do not. Together we will build a resource that will improve our community and industry.

Hi! Henry, Great work. especially the touches - See other articles and see the profile etc., the contributor still plays a central role in a collection a few thousand articles. Ver nice. Brandis
ps. I suggest a tab link in the personal profile, so that a potential outsourcer doesn´t miss anything. It is indeed there not as a tab but a leading link. Very nice

Great interactivity | Jun 27, 2005 |
Hi , Henry and a lot of thanks for improving the site , for me it is the interactivity which keeps me so in touch with the world of ProZ. The articles are a source of expressing opinions and sharing information , maybe a need of getting used to it ....I send an article but I am not sure you receive it....it was more imaginary, an introduction to a subject that I like so much...well is it possible to have a feedback from you ..
Thanks, Elena | | | I like the idea! | Jun 30, 2005 |
Great, it is a great idea to improve the site.Although I did not register, it helped a great deal. Yes, it is a good place to go when we feel tired or boring of the daily routine.
thanks

Yes, now this section with new name new way to be presented is visible! Iliked a lot the yesterday's article "Buildigng a Freelance Translation Office". I had translated in the past a lot. I had other profession and now I have just organized my home freelance translation office. So, I could check what I've done to what he suggests in the article. I liked it a lot. I will contact the author.

Where are "My Favorite Articles" gone?! | Sep 24, 2005 |
Hi, Henry,
When you started this feature, I was courious. Later on, I became very interested. I even thought some of the articles I read were so useful that I saved them as "Favorites" for future and quick reference.
However, I noticed that that worked only for the day. I tried couple of times more, again and again, and I could see under "My favorites" only the articles I had JUST saved there.

However, I noticed that that worked only for the day. I tried couple of times more, again and again, and I could see under "My favorites" only the articles I had JUST saved there.
Today, a new try - after I saved one article -I saw "My favorites list" with only one article, that one. Next, I cancelled this article from the list, and the whole "favorite" section dissapeared. Is there any way I can get may favorite articles back. Or should I go through the whole archive again, search and select and write links down on paper to be sure?
Hope you can help and fix the bug.
Thank you,
