Hi all,

I have downloaded a trial version of memoQ2014. I am now learning to use it and have a problem opening .doc format documents. .docx and pdf open fine. The message I get is: This file is not a ZIP archive, or it is password-protected.

Thanks, Sarka

You'd better share the file in question. Otherwise, it's hard to understand if the problem is about the file or the program. Anyway, is the file really .doc? Does it open in MS Word? Can you save it under another name and to another format?

Hi Sarka,

Normally this error indicates that the file you're trying to open in memoQ is a "*.doc" but somehow it has the "*.docx" extension.

You can change the file extension from "*.docx" to "*.doc" and see if this is the case. Or you just need to open the file is MS Word and save as another docx file.

Hope this helps.

Save in other format Aug 26, 2015

I haven't had that problem, but many .doc/.docx problems can be solved by opening the document in Word and resaving in the other format.

Check the filter before importing Aug 26, 2015

That message appears when more for some reason memoQ uses the Word 2007, 2010 and 2013 filter instead of the "Microsoft Word filter" for .doc files. Try importing with options (not just importing) and check that the appropriate filter is applied. If what you are trying to import is an old Trados bilingual Word file, change it to "Bilingual DOC/RTF filter".

I got a solution Oct 3, 2016

Hello,

I got the same message error today with a trial version 2015:

This does not appear to be an Office 2007 or later file, or it is password-protected.

Solution:

Select (Import With Options)>>Microsoft Word Documents

From (Document Import Option) click (Change filter and configuration) then select (Aspose)>>OK

This really worked!

Regards
