Who is in charge of vetting glossaries? Thread poster: Sam Berner

I have posted two, one today and one last week - the one from last week is awaiting vetting. It used to be two/three days maximum. If there is a need for a helping hand vetting these things, then why isn't it be advertised? I for one don't mind doing this, provided there are some clear, common-sensical procedures to go by.
But to go to the effort of spending hours looking for good stuff (I do that) and then have it go down some black hole, really takes the incentive of being helpful... For as long as I've been a member of Proz, this forum has not had an Arabic-speaking member as its moderator. The question as to why that is has I think been raised a few times before, and I don't believe we ever got a satisfactory answer.
Take a look at the list of non-English forums and you'll find that almost each one has a moderator which (at least by the look of their names) appears to be a speaker of that language - even the rarest of those languages!

Until now, the process of how Arabic-language postings by non-members are vetted, as well as glossaries, is a mystery to me - and I suspect the delay in their appearance has to do with the fact that no Arabic-speaker is directly in charge of that.
By the way, I know for a fact that it's not due to a lack of interested Arabic speakers that there's no Arabic moderator. ▲ Collapse

..before I make any comments. Why does it feel to me that Proz does not think any of us are good enough to moderate our own forum?
Maybe we should write a letter to Henry? I mean, why am I paying money for membership in a place that does not recognize me???
Not to mention I have an article that I submitted last week, and I still have not heard from anyone.

Anyone who's ever submitted a support ticket cannot possibly doubt Jared's efficiency and helpfulness, so I hope I'm not misunderstood - it's about the importance of having someone dealing with a forum which is in a language they understand.

Dear Sam and Nesrin,
I believe it is time to get a satisfactory answer to this question. Although I am not very much involved in the forum, but noticed many complaints about the prolonged delay in vetting/accepting contributions and comments in ARABIC.

I am sorry for the delay with your glossaries, Sam. I know your contributions in the GP very well, am aware how meticulously you choose and submit them, and understand your frustration completely. We are currently six people vetting the entries, and from time to time there is a backlog of unvetted submissions due to our workload, other site duties, or because it takes time to check an entry in a language none of us can understand. Of course, the total number of languages we all speak are only a handful, but we can understand at least what the glossary is about and what languages are involved in almost all Germanic, Romanic, Slavic, Turkic languages, plus Greek, Tagalog, and Chinese. Also, one of us can read the Cyrillic alphabet. But when it comes to Arabic... we are all helpless. In fact, we ask for help of our fellow moderators or site users in such situations. (For instance, Sam, I remember asking help of you at least once.) In any case, it is true that an Arabic speaker is needed for the GP and this has been brought up several times. But the site staff have too much in their plate and we wait our turn
I don't want to bore you writing too much and too long. But I just want to add that whenever such a delay -or, any other problem- occurs, please don't hesitate to contact the GP moderators. You can find all of us with links to our profiles at this page:
