The United States circuit courts were the original intermediate level courts of the United States federal court system. They were established by the Judiciary Act of 1789. They had trial court jurisdiction over civil suits of diversity jurisdiction and major federal crimes. They also had appellate jurisdiction over the United States district courts. The Judiciary Act of 1891 (26 Stat. 826, also known as the Evarts Act) transferred their appellate jurisdiction to the newly created United States circuit courts of appeals, which are now known as the United States courts of appeals. In 1911, the circuit courts were abolished, with their remaining trial court jurisdiction transferred to the U.S. district courts.

| Thanks but that's not it: I'm referring to the State level Circuit Court, not the federal level. On the State level there's the family & magistrate court, circuit/superior court, appelette court and supreme court. My quasion is how would you render circuit court (so far I have it as בית משפט אזורי, but I'm looking for a formal rendering). |

: Definitely not! At state level, the circuit court is the first level and the court of appeals is the second. They are NOT the same!

On second thought, with reference to the US State Court System, it may well be just that, as explained, for instance in the US courts website

The Constitution and laws of each state establish the state courts. A court of last resort, often known as a Supreme Court, is usually the highest court. Some states also have an intermediate Court of Appeals. Below these appeals courts are the state trial courts. Some are referred to as Circuit or District Courts.

Perhaps

would be a more appropriate term, considering the above.
