Quando il nodo atrioventricolare riceve uno stimolo dalle camere atriali, lo analizza, e con un ritardo di 0,35 secondi lo lascia passare nel fascio di His e nelle branche ventricolari, sinistra e destra. In queste branche la velocità di conduzione è altissima per potere attivare i ventricoli al meglio. Normalmente il ventricolo sinistro si attiva un pò prima del destro. Se in una delle due branche il passaggio dello stimolo è ritardato o bloccato (perchè non passa), lo stimolo stesso attiva prima il ventricolo con la branca normale, e poi, attraverso il setto, attiva l'altro ventricolo che ha la branca bloccata.
