Thanks Nick
agree Adrian MM. : preferably hyphenated as single-member https://iate.europa.eu/search/result/1672299947076/1 The 'person' AFAIK is routinely a corporate member or a partnership > 'pode ter como sócio único pessoas físicas ou jurídicas' // rather than the corp. member!

I agree with you about the hyphen. Thanks
agree philgoddard : I agree with Adrian - single-member. Though 'person' is not wrong.

neutral Seth Phillips : A single-member limited company would be the equivalent of Sociedade Unipessoal de Responsabilidade Limitada, which is different from Sociedade Unipessoal Anónima.

neutral Mark Robertson : The missing "anónima" changes things

sole/lone trader

Apparently, "sole trader" is the technical term used in EN-GB.

Types of Business Structure (UK Company Formation)
The applicant must first choose the best business structure for establishing the company as in the UK. In the UK, the following company structure types are available:

If you're a sole trader, you run your own business as an individual and are self-employed. You can keep all your business's profits after you've paid tax on ...

Lone Trader: As the name suggests, a sole trader is an individual who runs their own firm. A lone proprietor has unrestricted liabilities. As a result, the applicant before beginning the process of registering as a sole trader, should examine the quantity of his own liability. https://vakilsearch.com/incorporating-a-company-in-united-ki...

Thanks, Douglas.
neutral Mark Robertson : A sole trader has no corporate legal personality, i.e. it has no existence separate from the corresponding natural person. A sociedade anónima unipessoal exists independently of its shareholder, so the owner, can change, but the company remains the same.

disagree philgoddard : This is wrong - you can't just ignore "sociedade" and "anónima".
2 hrs
disagree Adrian MM. : It's sole proprietor/ship in AmE. In BrE a sole trader may - legalistically & contrary to Mark R.'s narrative - be an 'entity' with separate a/cs, arguably create a 'floating charge' over the sole trade (assets) & make an 'assignment of book debts'.

Portuguese term (edited): sociedade unipessoal anónima

Single-shareholder corporation / sole-shareholder corporation)

A sociedade anónima is a corporation. Multiple Spanish-speaking jurisdiction also have a Sociedad Anónima unipersonal.

And to quote Rebecca Jower:
Sociedad Anónima unipersonal (S.A.U.) → Single-shareholder corporation

"La Sociedad Anónima Unipersonal (SAU) es una forma de constituir una empresa de carácter mercantilista. Su principal característica es que dispone únicamente de un socio (puede ser una persona física o una persona jurídica)."
