German term

Berufsoberschule

German to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy Bavaria
Hello again,

This is from a State Technical College's (Fachoberschul-) school-leaving certificate granting admission to a German University of Applied Sciences.

DE:
Diesem Zeugnis liegt die Schulordnung für die Berufliche Oberschule - Fachoberschulen und ***Berufsoberschulen*** - in Bayern in der jeweils geltenden Fassung zugrunde.

I've got a hunch this could be the same as "Berufliche Oberschulen". Not sure at all though. No entry in the DAAD dictionary, I don't think.

Reposting following https://www.proz.com/kudoz/german-to-english/certificates-di... owing to minor to somewhat more relavant-ish, albeit undefined quality concerns on my part and more importantly in this case, a general sentiment of uncertainty surrounding some successful answers in ProZ.com KudoZ whether they really cut it, including that one. An example is the much-loved, much-reused and much-cited work by Kim Metzger about the term "Oberstudiendirektor", which at the end of the day does not really cut it as an OStD may or may not be a Principal in the individual case, and the translator working their way through the material will have a really hard time figuring this out so that I ended up going with another answer nobody corroborated (Senior Educational Official) just because I went to a pretty regular, actually pretty progressive-minded grammar school around these parts so I might know.

Best regards,

Best regards,

Only 2 (not 3) "terms of art" to differentiate Before getting into your actual question I'll just point out that based on the legislation in question, "berufliche Oberschule" and "Berufsoberschule" are not being used synonomously as one might think. This is evident from the title itself, which is "Schulordnung für die Berufliche Oberschule – Fachoberschulen und Berufsoberschulen (Fachober- und Berufsoberschulordnung – FOBOSO)". That n-dash in the title is not meaningless. :) They have basically defined "berufliche Oberschulen" as the "Oberbegriff" for *both* "Berufsoberschule" and "Fachoberschule" here: https://www.gesetze-bayern.de/Content/Document/BayFOBOSO/tru...

This question, too, received perfectly good answers last time it was asked. Just because something is old doesn't mean it's bad. And "senior educational official" is quite wrong for "Oberstudiendirektor".

=> relevant-ish

I can actually see some potential in the translation "vocational training college".

=> This certificate is based on the School Regulations for Vocational Training Colleges - State Technical Colleges (Fachoberschulen) and Vocational Training Colleges - in Bavaria, as amended.

But somehow the whole thing does not really click with me, once put together. I will have to figure out how the three key terms of art relate to one another.
