Basically it means to improve the performance... I'll allow the native French speakers to tell you whether 'performant' is an appropriate term to describe people!

: I agree with Laureen. To raise the game means to improve the performance. Game in that context does not mean jeu.

If I am not mistaken, "to raise the game" has the same meaning as "to raise the game's stake".
