Russian term

СЧ СУ при УВД ЦАО

Russian to English Law/Patents Law (general)
Please help my numb brain to avoid repeating "investigative" in this title. I am tempted to just put "the Investigative Department at the Administration for Internal Affairs for the Central Administrative District", as "Investigative Unit of the Investigative Department" sounds ludicrous as a direct translation, but am I detracting from the meaning?
Thanks in advance.

Dylan Edwards Nov 17, 2007:
To be a bit more specific: there was a reference to a particular individual "of the СЧ СУ при УВД..." - thereafter the same person was referred to as "xxx of СУ при УВД...". This left me with the impression that the СЧ perhaps wasn't that important.
Dylan Edwards Nov 17, 2007:
but with СЧ omitted.
Dylan Edwards Nov 17, 2007:
Funny, I saw something very similar recently. You may be right about omitting the СЧ part of it altogether. In the document, the СЧ appeared only once in the string of abbreviations. The same string of abbreviations appeared more than once elsewhere,

Re Alexander's suggestion: No, not Detectives' Unit, but how about Detection Unit?
Simon Hollingsworth (asker) Nov 16, 2007:
I accept your point, Alexander and the alternative you quote, as you well know, of course does not sound English. You may well be right about the correct translation of repeated words; perhaps I am being idealistic in my search for a better-sounding English equivalent.
Alexander Onishko Nov 16, 2007:
I am glad if yes - but this shoud not be translated so
Alexander Onishko Nov 16, 2007:
Does this - "Detectives' unit of the Investigative Department of the Constabulary of Moscow Central District" - sound English?
Alexander Onishko Nov 16, 2007:
What I do not understand, Simon, is why you want to make the translation better than the original! In both СУ and УВД - "У" is "Управление" this MUST be translated with the same word
Simon Hollingsworth (asker) Nov 16, 2007:
...and I think I should put "Directorate for Internal Affairs" to avoid the repetition of "Administation/Administrative". What a repetitive life I'm leading, eh?

any "improvements" will lead us away from the meaning
Note from asker:
Thanks for the input, Alexander, but this repetition is what I am trying to avoid. And 2 "directorates" added makes my translation turn to kasha!
Peer comment(s):

agree Roman Bardachev : if it repeats in the official title, it has got to repeat in the translation methinks

Executive Unit of the Investigation Department

In other words, the unit which does the actual investigating. Do you think that might do?
Note from asker:
That's certainly better than my attempt, Jack!
