I would like to know how to become established as a literary translator? How to specialize in one field (lets say children's lit.)? Access global markets? Any credentials, certificates or registrations known or necessary? How to contact publishing houses as a literary translator?

I attended a post-graduate course for literary translation. What I felt from the beginning, is that this too is a "closed" world. I was suggested to attend book fair (i.e. Frankfurt and Bologna) and make some PR, but I'm sure that konwledges are fundamental. How can I really have a breakthrough?

Interested in question above — how people got started. Also if people ever work in teams or mostly as sole translator.

I am strongly interested in this articular issue, how to get started as a literary translator. Then, I would like to know if it is mandatory to go to courses (and spend money) to get deeper in this specific specialization and to get projects after university.

I've noticed that job offers in literary translation are quite uncommon on Proz, so ... are there any ACTUAL literary translators here ? Do you rely on Proz and other web platforms to find customers ? If not, how and where do you find them ? And if it's the other way round, how do they find you ?

How can we start translating books, how can we find customers? I have already experienced some attempts to, but with no success. I tried contacting lots of publishers, but with no answers so far. Why is it so difficult to get into this field? Do you think it is a manner of closed Market, taking special courses, getting to know the right people? Help is welcome!
