English to Spanish: ST. MARK’S PLACE General field: Other Detailed field: Tourism & Travel
Source text - English i Where 8th St. would be, between Cooper Sq. and Ave. A S 6 to Astor Pl.
In the 1960s, pot-smoking flower children and musicians filled this street. In the late 1970s, they gave way to punks who hassled passersby. The youths of the 60s and 70s now line the street as tattooed adults, watching the steady stream of young East Village locals.
Present-day St. Mark’s Pl. is full of tiny ethnic eateries, street-level shops, and sidewalk vendors selling trinkets of all kinds–from plastic bug-eye sunglasses ($5) to belly rings ($8). In a way, St. Mark’s resembles a small-town Main Street–a small town with a bad-ass history. Unlike in most areas of the city, people here know one another and sometimes help each other out. Although many more-obscure-than-thou types now shun the increasingly commercialized and crowded areas of the street, St. Mark’s remains a hub of East Village life.

Translation - Spanish i ST.

Source text - English Overloads and overlaps
Attacks that use plenty of a pitch´s space, its width and depth, can stretch defences and lead to goalscoring chances. Giving your attack depth means staggering your positions up the pitch. This not only allows the on-ball player to make a safe pass backwards, it also makes it very difficult for a defence to mark up and play the offside trap against you. Width is very important, as defences tend to concentrate in the middle of the pitch, and an overlapping run by a wide player down the touchline can lead to a great crossing opportunity. Always be on the lookout for an overload. An overload occurs when the attacking side has more players in the attacking third of the pitch than the defending side. This requires fast running and support from team-mates.

Source text - English “Poor Elinor! Willoughby on one side, Brandon on the other. She is quite entre deux feux.” Prudie had a bit of lipstick on her teeth, or else it was wine. Jocelyn wanted to lean across and wipe it off with a napkin, the way she did when Sahara needed tidying. But she restrained herself; Prudie didn’t belong to her. The fire sculpted Prudie’s face, left the hollows of her cheeks hollow, brightened her deep-set eyes. She wasn’t pretty like Allegra, but she was attractive in an interesting way. She drew your eye. She would probably age well, like Anjelica Huston. If only she would stop speaking French. Or go to France, where it would be less noticeable.
“And Lucy, too,” Bernadette said. “Something about Elinor. Everyone wants to tell her their secrets. She encourages intimacy without meaning to.”

Translation - Spanish ≪ ¡Pobre Elinor!

Source text - English The Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos) is an utterly beautiful country that has seldom been lucky. One of Asia’s poorest nations, its history is bedevilled with quarrels with its neighbours and occupations by foreign powers. Despite abandoning economic communism in the 1990s and entry into the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN), it takes time to turn a country around. Even today, when the nation has long been at peace, most of its people still struggle to survive on meagre rations. But things are improving and the biggest investment ever considered in Laos is finally underway. Called Nam Theun 2, it is a hydroelectric scheme that is simply vast. Funded by the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the European Investment Bank, the $1.25 billion project involves the formation of a reservoir covering 450km2 (173.7mi2) in order to harness the hydroelectric potential of Lao PDR’s mighty Mekong river.
