I regret to have to inform the Proz community that Richard Benham died earlier today at the age of 52.
The cause of death is not yet known, but Richard had been in poor health for some time.
I've contacted several of his known acquaintances privately but there must be many people who I have overlooked or am not aware of.

Richard's profile and C.V. indicate the extent of his experience and professionalism.
He was also a very nice guy, with a great sense of humour and laudable ideas about what was right - and what was not.
I shall remember him with affection and respect.

I only knew Richard through the forums on this site, but we shared the same language pairs and had similar interests as regards specialist fields.
He was someone I admired enormously, who was clearly a very talented person with excellent translation skills. I'm very saddened by the news of his death and I am sorry that I never had the opportunity to meet him in person.
I send my sincere condolences to all his family and friends at this sad time.

I had many great collegial discussions with Richard on KudoZ and respected him very much.
I always valued his frank opinion and feel his contributions really helped.
Richard was truely a gentleman and a scholar.
His passing is a huge loss to the translating community.
Please pass my condolences on to his family.
