I am very saddened by the news of Richard's death and the disappearance of all his avatars. Words come to mind but it is hard to put them into sentences.
Giving, excentric, funny, sharp, knowing, questionning but also discrete, complex and tormented.
He was tremendously supportive and had an acute sense of justice and fairness. This is a great loss for the community and beyond.
Many condolences to his family and friends. Many of us were very fond of him!

Although I had only "e-met" Richard, the sense of "virtual" friendship was very real to me, and the sporadic private correspondence we enjoyed was a source of great humour and inspiration to me.
Knowing Richard has enriched my life, and I would like to publicly express my sincerest condolences to his family and close ones at this time of bereavement.

Only today I had the chance to read Richard's incisive and insightful remarks on a translation question. My deepest sympathy goes to his loved ones at this sad time.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Richard's passing. Richard will be sadly missed by the many colleagues who got to know him over the years when he was an active member of the site. His outstanding skills as a translator, his sparkling wit and his frankness and honesty made him a colleague so many of us admired.
Please pass my heartfelt condolences to his family.
