I think that they had to react to this DeepL Pro announcement:
Your Data is Secure DeepL Pro never stores the texts you are translating, and the connection to our servers is always encrypted. This means that your texts are not used for any purposes other than your translation, nor can they be accessed by third parties.
As a company based in Germany, all our operations comply with European Union Data Protection laws.

This does indeed look like significant news, as confidentiality remains a concern for my clients. I would be quite happy to try using machine translation as a kind of CAT overlay - the way I see it, it's just another tool - but the suspicion that somebody might be looking at my clients' data over my shoulder has always put me off. Quite honestly, I don't trust Google to do what they say they do. Microsoft, at least these days, strikes me as a more sedate corporate citizen that is less likely to try and push the envelope in matters of privacy.
