This two-day course aims to provide an introduction to Academic Discourse in English (EAD). It will include a theoretical component, in which the main characteristics of EAD will be described and contrasted with Portuguese, and practical sessions, involving the analysis of written and orally-delivered academic texts, exercises practising certain common structures, and the preparation of abstracts. In the final session, there will be a simulated conference, in which students will be invited to present mini-papers in parallel sessions.
