I mentored several in the past. Have not done any of that for the past 6 years or so...

A friend of mine gave me some very helpful tips and advice (incl. joining ProZ!) when I was starting out. I've now been able to do another friend the same favour. It's not something I do on a regular basis, but I'm happy to share my own experience with others and help them get established.

I mentored one friend who immediately got a job that paid more per word than I've ever earned! I'm always happy to help people get started when I have time, and I always turn them to ProZ first.

I am currently mentoring one friend who's getting started. I enjoy giving a hand whenever I'm asked to.
Don't you think it's one essential feature of our profession profile to enjoy helping people? I mean translating is a way to open up for people an unknown treasure, a new world, which would otherwise be unreachable for them.! I couldn´t think of anything more rewarding and preasurable.

On the other hand, I am grateful to all who mentored me: my mother, who inspired me love for different cultures, for languages, for study, for research and for volunteer work; to all my teachers, past present and future... and to colleagues, of course!
I wish we could build up some godfathering network , and I believe Proz is fertile land for this... Isn't it all about sharing?
Let me share with you these lovely poems... from the most cherished memories of my childhood: Gianni Rodari
Domandagli come sta: Non ti risponde affatto. ▲ Collapse

I haven't done it before, but I might consider doing it after I become more experienced. The closest I've done is giving advice in forums to aspiring translators (and interpreters!).

I answered no. Though I am all for teaching and helping people out, my main focus is earning a profit, and to do that, I spend all my time working, honing my skills and seeking new clients.

No time. BUT: I think that many translators who publish blogs are contributing towards mentoring.

I taught translation in the Translation and Interpretation Departament at Georgetown University for 17 years - helped to launch many professionals. Don't have time any more.

Yes, I have mentored several over the years, particularly in the area of techniques and methods to master translation software and tools.
