Bio

Practicing MD in the fields of general and cardiovascular medicine, plus ultrasound and Doppler investigations, I have a solid knowledge of English and French medical universe. As a double-national and language school alumnus, I am fluent in French, my mother tongue, and English (which I studied starting from age 12). As I studied medicine in English and practice it in French, I am at ease in this field in both languages.

I started medical translation in 1986 to complement my hospital practice, and have translated medical publications, clinical studies, pharmacovigilance reports, drugs and medical devices marketing authorization applications, health technology assessment reports, French and European medical regulatory texts, and texts for patient education and pharma sales rep training. I have translated as freelancer for virtually all the major pharmaceutical companies through essentially one french translation agency, and wish to explore working with other agencies as well as the direct client approach.

The fact that I am a practicing doctor has its advantages, as it ensures that the source material is approached from an "in-the-field" point of view, and that the translated text is readily acquired and accepted by target doctors, otherwise prompt to identify (and reject) off-jargon expressions. Occasionally, it enables one to untangle an ambiguous text on the basis of medical context.
