Background
1988 - 1990: I took up translating on a whim, telling a couple of comic book and pulp fiction publishers that I could probably do better than what I had just read of theirs. They sent me try-out jobs and found that I was right.
1990 - 1993: My translations impressed, and I was offered the position as comic book editor, handling the Swedish editions of ”Spider-Man”, ”X-Men” and ”Conan” for three years.
1993 - 1995: I went back to translating full time while developing professional digital lettering of comic books.
1995 - present day: I formed my one-person business, TDS, and took up media translation.
I have since worked with all the major Swedish players: SDI, BTI, Nordisk Undertext, VSI Ordkedjan, Skeppholm & Skeppholm, Primetext, Hippeis and Ordiovision. I have also worked with GoLocalise, Babelfisch and directly with Netflix.
Proficiencies
Software:
I use the brilliant software EZTitles capable of delivering files of pretty much any kind, “pac” and “890” being the most common.
Work procedure:
I prefer to translate while setting the cues, as Swedish has its flow and other languages theirs. Time coding while translating gets the best result – but working from a template is of course also an option. I am thorough and fast, producing about 50 minutes a day within any and all genres, about 70 minutes a day when working with templates.
Languages:
Native Swedish speaker.
Mainly translating English to Swedish.
Have also done some Norwegian, Danish and German to Swedish, as well as Swedish to English.
Experience highlights:
TV series:
Monty Python's Flying Circus, Stargate SG-1, Oprah Winfrey Show, The Simpsons, Antiques Roadshow, QI, Ellen DeGeneres Show, Penn and Teller: Bullshit!, Digging for Britain
Movies:
Slingblade, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, 21, The Karate Kid
