Marathi to English: Life of π General field: Science Detailed field: Mathematics & Statistics
Source text - Marathi
Translation - English Life of π
In the history of mathematics one question has challenged the mankind from the ancient time. This question is how to find out the ratio of circumference of a circle and its diameter to maximum decimal place? This ratio is denoted by a Greek alphabet π. Everyone including Indian, Babylonian, Egyptian, Arabians, Chinese from past 4000 years, to the mathematician from Supercomputer era have tried to find out the value of π to the maximum decimal places. Value of π is 3.141592653589….., this series is unending, just like a tail of Maruti. In mathematical language this is called as an infinite series. Hundreds of formulae were written to find the value of π to the maximum decimal places. Hundreds of methods were found and are still being identified. Birth story of the π is very interesting.
