English to Chinese: Abstract of an Article Tinea Capitis General field: Medical Detailed field: Medical (general)
Source text - English In Western Europe Microsporum (M.) canis
is the most common pathogen involved
in tinea capitis. Common sources of
infection by M. canis are cats (if they
have had contact with infected cats in
Southern European countries) and
guinea pigs. The pathogens colonize in
the fur of the animals, often without
causing apparent clinical symptoms.
Transmission by indirect contact, i.e.,
with objects (car seats, stuffed animals,
etc.) as well as person-to-person contact,
has also been reported. In Germany,
there are also isolated reports again of
M. audouinii. Based on 377 cases of tinea
capitis in Germany Tietz and colleagues
[29] have reported the following
pathogen distribution: M. canis 54.8 %,
Trichophyton (T.) mentagrophytes 14.7 %,
T. verrucosum 8.1 %, T. violaceum 6.1 %
and T. tonsurans 3.8 %. In a review article,
Schwinn and colleagues [27] reported
the following figures for the Würzburg
region in Germany: M. canis 50 %,
T. verrucosum 22 %, T. rubrum 14 %,
T. mentagrophytes 4 % and other
dermatophytes 10 %. Of 3775 cases of
tinea capitis reported to the European
Confederation of Medical Mycology,
37.9 % were caused by M. canis, 23.1 %
by T. tonsurans, 10.8 % by M. audouinii,
10.4 % by T. soudanense, and 9.7 % by
T. violaceum. Pathogens involved in
infection vary significantly by region.
The United States, for instance, recently
reported a dramatic increase in T. tonsurans
infections [6], while a similar increase
has not yet occurred in Europe [23].
