Solid Converter v.7.1 and as of now, Wordfast Anywhere Feb 25, 2012

I did not vote in the poll because it is not really a matter of which PDF converter I prefer, but the one I actually do have and use. To tell the truth, I find converting PDFs really irksome, and time consuming - not to speak about the section jumps inserted everywhere. It's really a headache. But this is no news for any of you, is it?

For extracted PDFs, Solid works quite acceptably. I updated it once and have now version 7.1, build 934, which seems an improvement over the former versions.

The real problem is - as you all have said - when the PDF is scanned and then your program sees it as an image and you cannot edit it. I did download some time ago a portable version of Abbyy Fine Reader (I believe it was version 8) but never got around much to using it.

I have now tried out the solution proposed with Wordfast Anywhere and it seems to work outstandingly well.

I am tempted by the favorable comments about Nitro, but since Solid performs acceptably for extracted pdfs, and now apparently the Wordfast Anywhere solution might help with scanned pdfs, I will stick to what I have and see how it goes.

Sometimes, when the documents are scanned but short, such as forms, certificates and the like, I don't waste time trying to convert them and simply replicate them as best I can directly in Word.

Thank you all for sharing, this exchange has been most instructive and enlightening.

Tried bunch of them May 30, 2012

The big TRIO im using for the last 2 years:
1. unscanned - Solid Converter - better then Nuance, Nitro, ... and many others - not tried all of them, but really many.
2. scanned - ABBYY pdf transformer 2.0 - no needs for 3.0 - already tried 3. Easy to use, very basic, manual selection of text, pictures or tables - but you can handle even the jpg, tiff or any other picture format - you have to create pdf before.
3. Direct editing - Infix pdf editor - really give it a try to this

3. Direct editing - Infix pdf editor - really give it a try to this one. The feature "Translate" => "CAT Export" and re-import of translated files - tried only once, with no big success - but pdf files was really complicated. Please reply with your experience with CAT Export - Import.
