Hi all, if you have Trados, how often do you actually use it for your work? All the time or just for some of your projects? If you also have other CATs, why (if so) do you choose to use Trados above the other ones? TIA

I use it daily. I also use other CAT tools but Trados more frequently, just because more agencies require it not because I find it better or easier. Left to choose, I use Trados because, by now, I know it inside out and feel comfortable with it. If the agency does not require a CAT tool, I still use it for the sake of consistency, and speed.

All the time. I own other tools (Wordfast, MemoQ) but Trados is still my favorite, hands down.

I use Trados and other SDL products almost everyday but only for segmenting & copying source to target. Then I use Deja Vu X to translate Trados files.

I like to use TRADOS for game translations, even if the agency doesn't require it because it allows for much better consistency. The problem is, sometimes an agency might give you files in scanned PDF that can't be counted or imported into TRADOS.

Well, actually I only own the basic/cheap version, but I haven't used it once since I bought it in December, I only seem to be using MemoQ.

I use Trados 2007 the most, followed by SDLx and Trados Studio 2009. I have no other CAT tools yet.

I use it only if an agency requires me to do so, which is not too often because I mostly work with direct clients. On every day basis I prefer a different CAT tool.

My use of Trados (Freelance 2007) is limited to translations performed for existing clients requesting it, no way a new client will impose it to me. The TEnT I use most is Heartsome as it has a Mac version.

I use it quite often - it is a great converter from files my clients send me to files I can work on with the tool I like...
Importance of consistency | May 23, 2011 |
I am using Trados for almost every work I take on regardless of client's wish. It is almost impossible to work without Trados (or any other CAT tool) when consistency matters a lot. It definitely speeds up the translation process a hell of a lot especially in technical translation and also it is as of now an integral part of my internal QA system.

I use Studio for all translation jobs and even for proofing at times. When proofing, the auto-propation tool is very nice when there is repetitive text--change manually in one place, and the change is automatically propagated to all duplicate sentences.

I use Studio for everything I translate unless I'm required to use another CAT tool (ie Transit NXT, the only other one I have). I wouldn't be without Trados now that I've got to know it (well, some of it) and Studio has been improved after some teething troubles.
