No, Windows does not have a migration assistant.

I always call my tech-support guy. (We call them "any-key-presser" in Russian. :) )

I send a PC by courier mail accross the city (we have a parcel machine downstairs in our building) and receive it back in several days.

I'm waiting for a new laptop next week and will send it for stuffing right from the post office.

It is time for me to buy new laptop. I want to trasfer programes to the new PC via USB keychain. Google says it cannot be done and programes should be downloaded, installed from fresh. I tried to put some programes on F: and looks like they transfered correctly. I did not run them tho. What is the best way to transfer .exe programes? Should i go to 'programe files' and just copy - paste the whole file to F:?

I don't know what the asterisked word is, so I can't really give an opinion.

Are you getting notifications on your cellphone? Do you get notifications on your cellphone for all incoming emails? There may be a setting in your email that turns off notifications for certain types of messages.

So? You don’t have to do anything about it, and you can also turn off notifications.

What are you referring to - ProZ notifications? Large LSP platforms run 24/7? Other?
(5 AM and bank holidays are local info, they don't apply globally, and in other cultures even Sunday is not a holiday.)

... at the opposite end of the spectrum there's my own mother, who stopped speaking her native Trevisan dialect with her mother because she was afraid it would confuse us kids.

To think that I could have been a native trilingual: Friulian with my parents and friends, Trevisan with my grandmother, Italian at school. Sigh...

Thanks for sharing this article. The topic of language loss is deeply connected to our work as translators and language professionals — we are, in a sense, guardians of linguistic and cultural heritage.

What strikes me most is that when a language disappears, it's not just the words that are lost, but entire ways of categorizing and making sense of the world. Many languages encode knowledge about ecosystems, medical plants, social structures, and cosmologies that exist nowhere else.

The mention of Marie Wilcox is inspiring — one person with the will to document and revitalize their native language. While we can't stop globalization, efforts like hers, along with digital archiving, immersion schools, and community programs, have shown that revitalization is possible.

As translators, we can also do our small part by taking on work that involves minority and endangered languages whenever possible.

Yes, they are different but grow in same areas, regions. Probably that's why they are mistaken. Experts say that Allium ursinum is sometimes mistaken even for posionous Colchicum autumnale too. :o

Allium ursinum is through by May! You just eat the leaves of Allium ursinum, which are green! The smell of both plants is totally different, in addition to that.

Here, in spring they are weekly mistaken for Allium ursinum which is similar and non-poisonous, etable.

It is true that it is poisonous if ingested, but in countries where it is traditional to give lily of the valley on the 1st May – such as Belgium, where I lived for 30 years – care is also taken to warn children of this fact, and cases of poisoning are extremely rare. Indeed, if that were not the case, a tradition dating back to the XVI century would have died out by now. Let it be clear, however, that my intention was not to poison anyone, but quite the opposite, to wish good luck. These days, we certainly need it!
