Hi everyone! I want to gain more experience in translation by participating as a volunteer in a translation project to add to my resume. Do you know any sites where I can apply? Besides Translators Without Borders, TED and Wikipedia?
Thanks!

Most NGOs need autonomy and never give constructive feedback

TWB and, I think, the ones mentioned by Teresa, need their translators to work totally autonomously, with proofreaders rarely being used and feedback rarer still. All you'll get is "thanks" from someone who may have no idea of the quality of your work. It follows that they are looking for very experienced translators who are willing to pay something back by donating their time. Such NGO translations really aren't suitable for beginners.
The crowd-sourced sites such as TED and Wikipedia are different. They are ideal for beginners. Your peers will provide their feedback through their edits.

I highly recommend reaching out to non-profit organizations, especially ones which are related to your specializations. I myself have offered to do pro bono translations for groups that work in my fields of interests. In my experience non-profits are more than happy to use your services and they are also likely to give you positive reviews. A simple WWA (willingnes to work again) and boost your profile. Cheers! -Stephen

You could try Global Voices and see if they are interested in your language combinations:
I did pro bono work for them for a few years when I was less busy.

is it too much ?
Oct 30, 2020
Hi everyone, yes non profits sound good, they are likely to want to give positive feedbacks for us. but are there too many projects that i am worried about overwork. let us say if they give a project of 2.000 words that should be finished everyday, it is too much for me, i still have other projects to do. how many words (per day) do projects which are offered by non profit organizations mostly have ?
thankyou so much

contract? how long
Oct 30, 2020
Hi everyone i hope you are having a great day,
i would like to ask, (maybe you have ever read about UN OR TED ) if we are about to take the voluntary work in UN and TED, do we have to sign the contract and agreement ? if yes, according to the contract, how long do we usually have to work to translate for ? 1 month, 6 months or ... i am worried if it takes too long personally. Is United Nation for beginner translators?
Thankyou so much
