Come on!!! Jul 16, 2017

Give us a break! The one yesterday was borderline, and this to follow? What is the purpose of such informative polls?
The polls here are starting to get more like a kindergarten than a seroius platform for translators!

Finishing a project Jul 16, 2017

Of course, it's always great to get positive feedback, but that only happens occasionally. I always feel good when I send off a project, like a load has been lifted off my back. That affects my mood even more than the payments when they come.

Why so serious? Jul 16, 2017

Relax, guys. These polls are just for fun. Don't take them so seriously. If you don't like one, just wait for another.

I chose "When I finish a project" because I always feel like a load has been lifted off my shoulders, even if it's just a 500-word text.

Michael, I feel your pain. It seems some of these inane polls are written by (cough) millenials too steeped into “positive thinking psychology.”

Speaking of psychology, even sophomores in a Psychology program understand that the average person has different moods through the day, the week, his/her lifetime, regardless of personality type.

Just wait. I'm sure Trump will have something to tweet about this.

There's not just one universal value for fun. What a 3-year-old considers fun (playing in the mud, for instance) is one thing, very different from what a 14-year-old girl considers fun (mall shopping, for example). And so on.

And languages have different words for “fun”: lighthearted, silly, entertaining, hilarious, etc. This poll and others of the same ilk are none of these things.

I am usually in a good mood, which can improve when:

- I finish checking a long job
- I receive an early payment
- I see that the project I am working on has a at least a 75% match with a previous one and so I can gain time
- I can take a Sunday off

Positive feedback from a client Jul 16, 2017

If clients are going to complain, they can turn up long after the job is delivered and forgotten... But compliments usually come fairly fast after delivery, while I'm riding on the wave of satisfaction about getting the job off. Then I KNOW they're not going to complain later.

PS I privately call these polls Dagens dumme spørgsmål / Today's daft question ... and having set the level of expectation low, I am sometimes pleasantly surprised when they actually spark off a good discuss

As Gianluca, I'm generally in a good mood, improved by having several good-sized jobs with reasonable deadlines already slotted into next week's calendar.

As to the quality of the polls -
De gustibus non disputandum est.

If you don't like them, ignore them, no?

compliments Jul 16, 2017

definitely getting compliments about my work will always make me feel like a million dollars, especially when it's about the actual text and not just because I managed to hand it in on time.
Getting admin done does have a good effect, but it's more relief than elation.
Yesterday I finished a job long before I thought I would which was a pleasant surprise too.

All of these are, of course, very pleasant. But IMO the best is to get a new large project that will ensure me some extra money. Above all from good payers.

Sorry, but I am another opinion there. These polls should be informative and possibly help us translators, and I am sorry, but if someone is in a good mood or not is of no interrest to anyone at all because these are personal feelings!

I find it okay if we have a joke every now and then, but useless polls should be filtered by the ProZ staff - we are paying for this after all!!!

If I want to hear a joke, I pick a book of jokes or tune in to one of Gabriel Iglesias' HBO specials (he's very funny). Whether I'm in a good or a bad mood, that's a personal matter, as Michael says. The point is not whether I have a choice to ignore a useless poll. The real thing is why is Proz allowing such dreck in a presumably professional portal in the first place?

And that's why I'm not paying Proz. The trash that I generate at home (empty bottles, newspapers, junk mail, etc.) cost me nothing. Why should I pay someone else for trash?
