What is homeopathy?

In the late 18th century, a German physician named Samuel Hahnemann came upon a passage claiming that the quinine-containing Peruvian bark (chinchona) cured malaria. Using himself as a subject, Hahnemann swallowed a dose of Peruvian bark. He began to feel feverish, drowsy, desperately thirsty, and agitated—all of which he recognized as symptoms of malaria. This caused Hahnemann to experiment further and form his theory that like cures like, or the Law of Similars. This law states that when a substance in large doses causes certain symptoms, in small doses it can cure these same symptoms. Some treatments in conventional medicine rely on this like-cures-like principle; vaccines, for instance, introduce small doses of an illness-causing agent to prevent disease.

Other important principles of homeopathy are dilution and succussion. Remedies are diluted and then "succussed," or shaken, in order to increase their potency. The process of successive dilution and succussion is called potentization.

How does homeopathy work?

Homeopathic remedies start with simple substances, such as herbs, minerals, or animal products. These substances are first crushed and dissolved in a specified amount of a substance—usually grain alcohol or lactose, mechanically shaken, then stored. This is the "mother tincture." Homeopaths further dilute tinctures with alcohol or lactose, either 1 part to 10 (written as "x") or 1 part to 100 (written as "c"), and then succusse these tinctures, yielding a 1x or 1c dilution. Homeopaths can even further dilute these tinctures two times (2x or 2c), three times (3x or 3c), and so forth. In clinical practice, any dilution may be used, but the most common are the 6x, 12x, and 30x and 6c, 12c, and 30c. The more diluted the substance, the more potent its healing powers are thought to be.

Rather than simply suppressing symptoms of a disease, homeopathic remedies act as catalysts that aid the body's inherent healing mechanisms. Moreover, homeopaths believe that any physical disease has a mental and emotional component. The homeopathic diagnosis is threefold, including physical symptoms (e.g., feverish), current emotional and psychological state (e.g., anxious, restless), and overall constitution of the individual (this includes more enduring qualities related to a person's creativity, initiative, persistence, concentration, physical sensitivities, stamina). The right remedy for a particular condition addresses all of these aspects and requires a highly individualized diagnosis.

Homeopathy is also used like other remedies; that is, according to symptoms. Health-food stores and some pharmacies sell homeopathic remedies for a variety of problems. These store-bought remedies are very safe; users have reported no side effects. Remedies are usually taken for no more than 2 or 3 days, though some people require only one or two doses before starting to feel better. If a remedy fails, it may be because it was the wrong substance for the set of symptoms.

Introduction

The art before the Spanish colonization was based almost entirely on the production of potteries, metal and stone working, and also textiles. Spanish introduced the urban planning, with cities organized in a chessboard style, and built houses, churches and monasteries imitating the Spanish renaissance, or maybe the phlegmatic neo-baroque Spanish style. Years later, these European styles show more and more signs of native Indian influences, as the result we have a style known as a "mestizo" (half-caste) (the best examples of mestizo architecture are around Puno and Arequipa). The painting also imitated the European influence, but as long as local artists were asserted, a new and different "Cuzco" was developed, in which artists took distance from the real world to focus on tales and fables. The influence of these works on Gauguin (whose mother was Peruvian, and who spent his childhood in Lima) is remarkable.

Peruvian literature includes everything from the controversy inspired on the independence to anarchist individualism of its poets, passing through the childish dreams of the internationally known Mario Vargas Llosa.

The languages in Peru

There are almost 70 different dialects in Peru, and besides the distant places of the Amazon, Spanish is spoken. In the higher areas, Quechua (which is also an official language) is generally spoken. English is often understood (also in many hotels), but it is not much used. The Aymara is another of the current spoken dialects. See also the Spanish vocabulary.

Peruvian music

Only a few South American countries can be proud of such a variety of music. Who doesn't know the characteristic Andean music, of pre-Colombian influence, played with traditional instruments as the quena, siku (pan flute) and drums? It's not the only one, several folk music use, besides those instruments, the guitar, the violin, the harp, the charango (small guitar whose case is made of armadillo shell). The Indian fanfares, where brasses and bass drums have an important place, and accompany the village's dances and carnivals.
All this wealth and variety is shown in many dances: the marinera, the festejo, the lando, the negritos, the salsa from African influence; the huayno, huaylash, yaravi muliza are a result of the Spanish-Indian interbreeding; not mentioning the Creole kinds as waltz and polkas. Others are purely native like the huifala, the llamerada, the ayarachis, and the chiriguanas, to mention some of them.

Events

Many important holidays in Peru come form the Catholic Roman Church liturgy calendar. They are often celebrated in a pagan way, mostly in Indian villages in the high-plateau, where the catholic holiday is often associated to a traditional agricultural celebration. The most important holidays are: The Carnival (February-March), very popular in Peru and symbolized by water battles; the Inti Raymi (June 24th), the most important one with spectacular dances and parades; the Independence Day (July 28th); the All Saint's Day (November 1st), celebrated with offertories of food, beverages and flowers put on family crypts; and Day of Puno (November 5th), with flaming costumes and dances in the streets of Puno.

Op deze Finca met een afmeting van 14.000 m2 is een grote tuin met zwembad en talrijke fruit en sierbomen. Je bent op redelijke afstand van Conil de la Frontera en de kust met prachtige zandstranden. .

Programma 1: 24 uur rijden.
Dag 1. Door de bossen naar het strand waar je in galop langs de zee gaat. Onderweg is er een lunchpauze.
Dag 2. Over een 1000 hectare grote Finca, langs de kuddes koeien, door kurkeikbossen voert de weg naar een klein dorp in het achterland. Laat je berg op- en afwaarts voeren en ervaar hoe prettig onze Andalusische paarden te berijden zijn. Tijdens de lunch geniet je de typisch Spaanse gerechten.
Dag 3, 4 en 5 zijn halfdaagse ritten.
Je kan hier genieten van de rust die in de omgeving vol op te vinden is. Geen auto’s, geen lawaai. Het minimum aantal deelnemers voor deze week is 2 personen.Dit programma is alleen geschikt voor gevorderden met minstens 1 jaar ervaring met buitenritten. Duur van de dagritten ongeveer 6 uur per dag.
Zomer programma 2: 18 uur rijden
In juni en september is er een aangepast programma omdat het dan nog vaak behoorlijk warm is worden er geen dagtochten gemaakt. Dagelijks kan je toch tussen de 2 a 4 uur rijden in de omgeving van de Finca.
Hoogzomer programma 3: 14 uur rijden
In juli en augustus, de warmste maanden, wordt er alleen ’s ochtends gereden. Dagelijks 2 tot 3 uur. Naast het paardrijden heb je volop gelegenheid om de omgeving te verkennen en naar het strand te gaan of uit te rusten bij het zwembad.

1. READ INSTRUCTIONS - All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the product is operated.
2. RETAIN INSTRUCTIONS -The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference.
3. HEED WARNINGS - All warnings on the product and in the operating instructions should be adhered to.
4. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS - All operating and use instructions should be followed.
5. CLEANING - Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Clean only with dry cloth.
6. ATTACHMENTS - Do not use attachments not recommended by the product manufacturer as they may cause hazards.
7. WATER AND MOISTURE - Do not use this product near water - for example, near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub; in a wet basement; or near a swimming pool; and the like.
This appliance shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing water and no object lled with liquids such as vases shall be placed on the apparatus.
8. ACCESSORIES - Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table. The product may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the product. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table recommended by the manufacturer, or sold with the product. Any mounting of the product should follow the manufacturer instructions, and should use a mounting accessory recommended by the manufacturer. A product and cart combination and uneven surfaces may cause the product and cart combination to overturn.
9. VENTILATION - Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating, and these openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug or other similar surface. This product should not be placed in a built-in installation, such as a bookcase or rack, unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer*instructions have been adhered to.
10. POWER SOURCES - This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your product dealer or local power company. For products intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions.
11. GROUNDING OR POLARIZATION - This product may be equipped with a polarized alternating-current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other).This plug will t into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature: If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to t, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.
12. POWER-CORD PROTECTION - Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point of exit from the product.

Als het apparaat op een stelling staat, kan deze omkiepen door over ongelijke oppervlakken te rijden.

11. AARDING EN POLARISATIE - Dit product is mogelijk voorzien van een gepolariseerde wisselstroomstekker (een stekker waarvan één van de penner breder is dan de andere). Dit is een veiligheidsmaatregel: Draai de stekker om als deze niet helemaal in het stopcontact gestoken kan worden. Als de stekker nog steeds niet past, bel dan een elektricien om uw stopcontact te vervangen. Pas de gepolariseerde stekker niet aan, als u dit doet wordt de veiligheidsfunctie van de stekker opgeheven.
12. BESCHERMING VAN ELEKTRICITEITSSNOEREN: Zorg ervoor dat er niet over stroomkabels heen gelopen kan worden en dat de kabels niet afgeknepen kunnen worden door een voorwerp dat erop of ertegenaan geplaatst is. Let vooral op stekkers, stekkerdozen en het punt waar de kabels het apparaat verlaten.

Freelance translator English to Dutch specialising in touristism, health and cosmetics marketing texts

I am a qualified, experienced and enthusiastic freelance translator of English into Dutch and vice versa. I specialise mainly in (marketing) translations in the fields of tourism, beauty/cosmetics and health/wellness field. Marketing texts often require a more creative than literal approach, and attention to detail. That's why I deliver 'creative and cosmetic' translations!

My native language is Dutch, and after much study and practise I consider myself near-native in English. I speak good Hebrew, but not yet good enough to translate from. I have learned Spanish, French and German in the past, but they have gone a bit rusty from lack of use... I enjoy reading and writing in several languages, and I have a good eye for detail and spelling.

I studied English Language and Literature, specialising in Translation, at Utrecht University. After my graduation in 2003, I emigrated to Israel where I now live with my husband and, three bilingual little boys. Because I live in Israel, I am available for translation work on Sundays and I can sometimes be more flexible in my rates.

Because of my working experience in tourism and health/cosmetics, I specialise mainly in (marketing) texts in those fields. However I also have translation experience in other fields, such as: consumer electronics, design furniture, popular science and software localisation. My translation experience includes both translating and proofreading, mostly from English to Dutch but also vice versa. I have translated texts, websites, software strings, brochures, and some children's books.
