Source text - English The nineteenth century was a time of great political, cultural and artistic upheaval in the western world. The dream of an ideal society spread throughout the consciousness of Europe and the New World, and it was a dream that people were determined to turn into a reality. Not only were they inspired by ‘liberté, égalité et fraternité’ (the motto of post-revolutionary France), they sought to return to a natural state of being, one in which the individual would seek truth in his own heart and not in the political and religious conventions of the day. But for this perfect world to be achieved, both politically and personally, things would have to get worse before they got better; and aside from this prevailing spirit of hope and optimism, the era now dubbed the ‘Romantic’ period was dogged by wars, poverty and disease. None of these would feature in today’s interpretation of the word ‘romantic’, so how did the term come about?
The word itself derives from the Old French word ‘romanz’ and refers to the many stories of heroism, chivalry and passion – the romances – of medieval times. These were
written in such languages as French, Spanish, Italian andPortuguese – languages which grew out of Latin and therefore came to be termed the ‘romance’ languages. It is the extremes of emotion contained in these stories that led to our modern definition of the word ‘romantic’ and which are key qualities of Romantic music.
Translation - Korean 서구의 19세기는 정치, 문화, 예술 부문에서 대격변이 일어났던 시대였다. 이상사회를 건설하겠다는 꿈은 유럽과 신세계 도처로 널리 퍼져나갔고 동경에 그치지 않고 실천하려는 의지 또한 명백했다. ‘자유, 평등, 박애’(프랑스 혁명의 구호)에서 영감만 받은 게 아니라 존재의 본질적 상태를 돌이켜보고자 했으며 개개인이 진리 탐구를 할 때도 정치와 종교라는 관습적 기준을 배제한 채 스스로 깊이 생각하고자 했다. 이토록 마음만큼은 완벽한 세계를 이루려 했건만 실제 상황은 정치적으로나 개인적으로나 더욱 나빠지기만 했다. 희망과 낙관주의 정신이 성행했다고는 하나 현재 ‘낭만주의’ 시대라고 부르는 그 당시에는 전쟁, 빈곤, 질병이 끊이지 않았다. 이들 중 그 어느 것도 ‘낭만’을 해석하는 오늘날의 방식에 들어맞지 않을 텐데 이런 이름은 어떻게 붙었을까?
‘낭만’이라는 단어 자체는 오래된 프랑스 단어 ‘로망romanz’에서 유래했고 중세의 영웅주의 ․ 기사도 ․ 격정의 이야기를 가리킨다. 이런 내용을 글로 쓸 때 사용된 언어는 프랑스어, 스페인어, 이탈리아어, 포르투갈어 같이 라틴어에서 뻗어 나온 로만어romance language였다. 이런 이야기 속에 등장하는 극단적인 감정 묘사가 ‘낭만’이라는 단어의 현대적인 정의로 이어졌으며, 동시에 낭만주의 음악의 핵심 성격이 되었다.

Source text - Korean 이-- 디자이너는 서두르지 않는 사람입니다. 결과를 위해 달려가기보다 과정을 즐기는 사람이며, 어떠한 일에 있어서도 프로젝트의 기본 목적을 잃지 않으려 합니다. 가령 처음 접하는 매체라고 하더라도 기획자의 의도를 정확히 파악하고자 하며, 반대로 스스로 찾은 아이디어와 자료를 공유하며 소통하고자 합니다. 이는 모든 디자이너들이 갖추어야 할 태도이지만 현실적으로는 빠듯한 일정에 놓치기 쉬운 부분이기도 합니다. 이는 어떻게 이은영 디자이너가 여타 디자이너들보다 빨리, 그리고 높이 성장할 수 있었는지에 대한 이유이기도 합니다.
또한 그녀는 뛰어난 감각과 재능을 지니고 있습니다. 노력하는 자도 중요하지만 저는 개인적으로 이은영 디자이너가 지닌 타고난 감성을 높이 삽니다. 디자인은 수학과 과학처럼 정확한 답이 있는 작업이 아니기 때문에 어느 시점에서는 그녀만의 탁월한 감각이 작품의 완성도 및 퀄리티를 높여줍니다. 이러한 그녀만의 이점은 그녀가 잡지를 디자인 하는 것 외에도 공연 포스터, 백서, 패키지 등 광범위한 영역에서 역량을 펼칠 수 있는 밑받침이 되었습니다.

Translation - English Designer Lee is a calm person. She knows how to enjoy the process rather than rushing into the result. Above all things, she holds fast to the objective of any project from the beginning to the end. Even if unfamiliar materials are given to her, she captures the planner's intention and skillfully communicates with her colleagues by sharing the idea and data of her own with them. All designers are supposed to possess this attitude but most of them cannot follow it when they are busy in reality. However, she has been able to be competent at both sides and that is why she could develop her career more exceptionally and earlier than others.
As a designer, she has outstanding talent and wonderful taste. I think highly of her natural taste from the designer's point of view. Design is different from the field that deduces the exact result such as mathematics and science so her excellent taste brings the quality and completeness at some point. This is the strength she owns and has offered the basis on which she has been able to display her capacity in the extensive fields such as concert posters, white papers, package services etc.
She is a punctual person. Coordination with clients and furthermore the due date is crucial in commercial design. Great talent and outstanding outcome are useless without missing the due date but designer Lee has never been that case. All the better, she always finishes her work in advance and upgrade its quality. I appreciate her way of working and philosophy of enjoying it because it enables higher quality and deeper trust from clients. So I recommend her without reservations.
