Latent Defects Insurance Definition
Sometimes called latent damage insurance or project insurance. Not seen all that often.
Developers will take out this cover in advance of construction of a new building. It indemnifies the current building owner against the cost of remedying defects appearing during a fixed period ﾐ typically ten years - after completion of works. An insured building owners may transfer the policy to a buyer.
A variant called ﾒwhole life insuranceﾓ will cover the first 35 years of the buildingﾕs life.

Latent defects insurance provides cover for newly constructed commercial and industrial buildings against structural defects for a specified period, normally 10 years.
An essential feature of the insurance is the appointment of a technical auditor to undertake design checks and periodical site visits during the construction of the building.
The insurance will be effective from practical completion and will cover
