Boulder burials are very simple, yet striking monuments. As the name suggest they are simply burials beneath a large boulder. The burials contained within are mainly single and set in a small kist like chamber made from smaller stones. Boulder burials can be found on their own or within or around stone circles. The boulders often bear cup marks and were often picked for their curiously attractive shape or rock patterns.

巨石墓是史前人類用巨石架建的墓石牌坊，其結構很簡單，有不同種型態：有由 一塊重達數頓的岩石蓋板平放在兩塊或四塊側立的支石上，形似一個石桌的；有在地面下有一石室，支石是在蓋板和石室之間的；也有只有蓋板和石室，而沒有支石的。
