Discussion

Dylan Edwards (asker) May 21, 2013:
Thank you for all the comments and the German ref.
For the sake of completeness, I'll mention that I've now seen the word "implant" used in connection with this product (it's implanted in soft tissues).
Stuart Hoskins May 20, 2013:
Schwamm/Pilz I think fungus would be Pilz. If you look at the Swiss site at http://www.compendium.ch/(X(1)S({494036ea-baf8-4f4b-8d40-aa0... the Schwamm is quite clearly the sponge/pad: “1 steriler Schwamm von 5 × 5 × 0,5 cm: 32,5 mg Gentamicin (entspricht 50 mg Gentamicini sulfas)”
Maria Chmelarova May 19, 2013:
Dylan/Stuart Schwamm in German - houba in Czech it's not " a sponge " but fugusfungi. Pls., read more Garamycin > Gentamicin. The ending - -icin is for all antibiotics with are in spectrum of Penicilin, Erytromicyn and etc. Pardon me for mixing L/S/E lang.
Stuart Hoskins May 19, 2013:
Schwamm I thought the German was a dead giveaway (Schwamm = sponge)
Dylan Edwards (asker) May 19, 2013:
'Pad' is a possibility here. So is 'sponge', though I note the use of the term 'Garamycinová houba' in a related article, i.e. more literally a 'sponge'.
