Troques de palero

Spanish to English Other Transport / Transportation / Shipping
I am working on a transcription/translation project for subtitles to a short oral history and the interviewee is in his 90s and has lived in the US for decades but lived in the Lake Chapala area of Jalisco, Mexico as a young man.

At one point he refers to working in "troques de palero" and I am not sure what he is referring to. It could be timber trucking/hauling or something of that kind. It is also possible that I am not hearing him correctly (he speaks in a mix of English and Spanish and as an older man he doesn't always speak clearly). Below is a bit more context that hopefully will help. Any thoughts?

[Joaquín] "Cuando ya estábamos casados me la llevé pa allí. Pa trabajar en México con el tío ese."
[Sandra] "¿En qué trabajaste?
[Joaquín] "En los troques, troques de palero. Nopales, you know? ¡Durísimo!

Timber truck

Troque is a truck, and "camión palero" is one of those huge trucks that carry timber. This explanation comes from a quick Google research, but it provides an idea, I hope this is useful
Note from asker:
I am inclined to agree with you that it is some kind of timber trucking. I am also confused about the nopales comment... it's a tough one. One extra piece of context is that when he's says México, he is referring to Mexico City. That had already been established earlier in the interview.

neutral philgoddard : Possibly, but this needs references. And I don't see how it would fit with nopales, prickly pears, assuming that's the word he uses.

In Trojes as a shoveler

I think the right word could be "Trojes" instead of "Troques". Trojes is a town located in Jalisco, Mexico (see referenced website). Apparently, the old man used to work shoveling nopales or similar. Cheers.
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : But it's 'Los' Troques.
