HO

French to English Medical Medical (general) Dermatology abbreviation
Hi all -

I am translating doctor's notes from a French dermatologist and am wondering what the abbreviation "HO" might stand for.

Context:
Par ailleurs, HO et atteinte distale de l'ongle du 2eOD, mycoster vernis et cr,

Could HO simply stand for hospital or hospitalization?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Michael

Discussion

Sue Davis Jul 15, 2021:
it would seem to refer to the nail
Michael Meskers (asker) Jul 14, 2021:
2eOD = I think it is Deuxième ongle droit
Iuliia Vinitchenko Jul 13, 2021:
May I ask you what is 2eOD here?
Samuël Buysschaert Jul 13, 2021:
Not my field, but i think "HO" means "hospitalisation d’office/hospitalisé" if i'm not mistaken. / would mean "hospitalisé" in the context, without certainty just an idea.

neutral Iuliia Vinitchenko : Not sure if it can be applied to nails, and in French it is OH, but not HO

Note from asker:
I think this fits perfectly within the context! Thanks!
Hello again -- I gave this more thought and although elsewhere in the file the patient does experience dizziness from time to time. He also has evidence of CKD and suffers from diabetes as well. So while anything is possible given all his comorbidities, I think this is after all related to his toenail.

hyponychium

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyponychium
The hyponychium is the area of epithelium, particularly the thickened portion, underlying the free edge of the nail plate on the nail. Its proximal border is immediately distal to distal limit of nail bed—a.k.a. the onychodermal band (the line along the interface of the nail bed and the nail plate). Its distal border the free edge of the nail plate—or where that edge would project downwards onto the epidermis.

A bit of a long shot I'm afraid
Note from asker:
I think this is likeliest suggestion yet I am still in doubt about the abbreviation "HO." Just one page (out of 50) was a report from dermatology. The rest was a collection of doctor's summaries, laboratory screenings, and diagnostic tests from a host of different providers due the fact that patient has so many other conditions.
