A brochure about cannabis for older Canadians - accessible language
I'm writing in English because the person who will read it doesn't speak Polish. Please respond in English.
I have translated a brochure about cannabis benefits and risks for older Canadians. The owner of the agency I did it for insists that I change the word "marihuana" I used all over because it is "slangish." She is Russian, and I understand the Russian language adopted the term "cannabis." I'm trying to explain why I cannot really change it:
1. Polish doesn't use kanabis - unlike Russian
2. There is no other good, neutral word. I did use "Konopia indyjska" meaning specifically the plant but it doesn't seem to work for the dry stuff or extracts. Also, in a popular brochure, it would be pretty confusing, don't you think?
Please confirm my opinion or let me know why it is incorrect.

The agency has opened question here where the entire (needed) context has been given.
As "marihuana" is not the only product made of "konopie", there has appeared a proposal to name cannabis the "produkt konopny" in the context, in Polish.

The evidence is duly given here under links by Crannmer.
If the Canadian lady, Russia originated, is implacable, simply add cannabis in parentheses, following the word marihuana...

- https://e-dtp.pl/medyczna-marihuana-aspekty-prawne-i-lecznic...
