Italian term

ventricoli areati

Italian to English Medical Medical (general) Brain CT
Now this is a peculiar one, unless I am missing something. It forms part of a CT scan of the brain, in a patient with lung cancer and metastasis.
All findings are normal. The first line also says that the ventricles are not dilated. Is this an error that has crept in?
The report is typed, so it's not an issue of illegible handwriting.

Many thanks!

Fiona Grace Peterson (asker) Sep 16, 2020:
In the end I went with "paranasal sinuses" and flagged the term to the client. Many many thanks to everyone for your input as always, hugely appreciated!
Anne Schulz Sep 8, 2020:
Medically, sinuses definitely makes a lot of sense. The report obviously intends to state normal/normal/normal... findings, and a normal ventricle does not contain air. Plus, the deep paranasal sinuses (e.g. ethmoidal cells, sphenoid) can better be visualized by CT scan than any other technique, and it is not uncommon to include a statement on the sinuses even if the scan was for brain imaging purposes.

Lirka I think you may be right! Thank you!

paranasal sinuses? To me, it would make more sense if they were actually referring to paranasal sinuses. Maybe they were thinking of it and wrote "ventricles" instead by mistake. Let's see what Anne has to say...
Fiona Grace Peterson (asker) Sep 7, 2020:
Hi Anne - this is the whole thing:
"Encefalo: strutture mediane in asse; ventricoli non dilatati; non alterazioni densitometriche focali nei territori sovra-sottotentoriali evidenti nelle condizioni basali né dopo somministrazione di mezzo di contrasto.
Non tumefazioni endoorbitarie.
Ventricoli areati.
Non alterazioni osteostrutturali craniche."
Anne Schulz Sep 7, 2020:
What else does the report say about the brain and the ventricles?

Proposed translations

1 hr

aerated ventricles / aerated blood in the ventricles

The blood in the ventricles is aerated, or the ventricle itself is "aerated" (possibly as a result of the blood in it or flowing through it being aerated)
