Strefa zasypu dotyczy ODCINKA ślimaka wytłaczarki, nie mniej ni więcej. Ślimak jest podzielony na trzy strefy, i w każdej z nich ze względu na jej przeznaczenie ma on inną konstrukcję - głównie dotyczy to średnicy rdzenia centralnego ślimaka czyli jednocześnie głębokości kanału między kolejnymi zwojami ślimaka. Po polsku strefy te nazywają się zasypu, uplastyczniania i dozowania, a po angielsku mamy tak (wklejam taki opis z wikipedii):

Feed zone (also called the solids conveying zone): this zone feeds the resin into the extruder, and the channel depth is usually the same throughout the zone.
Melting zone (also called the transition or compression zone): most of the polymer is melted in this section, and the channel depth gets progressively smaller.
Metering zone (also called the melt conveying zone): this zone melts the last particles and mixes to a uniform temperature and composition. Like the feed zone, the channel depth is constant throughout this zone.

Cleaning of injection-moulding machines and extruders
Empty the barrel by spouting out the residual material
Remove the screen and the screen changer in extruders
If there is a venting pipe in extruders, please close the pipe tightly up to the barrel inner wall
Fill in the mixture of granulate and meltclean® / meltclean®E into the fill-in zone

Klasyczny ślimak został podzielony na 4 funkcjonalne strefy:
- I –strefa zasypu (długość 1,5 – 2)D-średnica zewnętrzna ślimaka. Zadaniem jej jest właściwe przejecie przez ślimak tworzywa wejściowego w postaci granulek. Strefa ta znajduje się bezpośrednio pod otworem zasypowym ślimaka.
II – strefa zasilania. W strefie tej tworzywo znajduje się wyłącznie w stanie stałym. Długość strefy (od 4 do 15)D. Strefa ta spełnia głównie funkcje transportowania i nagrzewania.
- III – strefa przemiany rozpoczyna się ona w miejscu w którym zaczynają się topić pierwsze krystality tworzywa. Gdy zaczyna się pojawiać tworzywo w stanie plastycznym. Długość strefy (5 - 10)D . Funkcje w tej strefie są z tą samą intensywnością.
- IV – strefa dozowania. Rozpoczyna się w miejscu gdzie stałe tworzywo jest topione , uplastycznione . Długość strefy (5 - 10)D. Następuje tu transportowanie , mieszanie , nagrzewanie.
W przypadku ślimakowego układu wytłaczającego otwór cylindra w strefie zasypu na części długości strefy zasilania może mieć rowki rozmieszczone na całym obwodzie i mają one być wzdłużne bądź śrubowe o bardzo małej stromości.
