Spanish term

redensificar/redensificacion

Spanish to English Other Government / Politics
Talking about a real estate project to "redensificar el centro de la ciudad, colaborando a resolver la falta de suelo urbanizable que hoy sufre el municipio ..." I really don't want to go with "redensify"; would anybody vote for "repopulate" perhaps?

Discussion

Lisa McCarthy May 5, 2010:
Catherine - I think your suggestion is fine too.
Joss Heywood May 5, 2010:
repopulate I think your solution is fine - "repopulate urban centers" is a common expression. "Redensify" I find in Indian English in urban planning, but it doesn't seem to be generalised yet.

repopulate

Before reading your explanation, this was my first thought.

Tons of examples on the Internet, especially for blighted inner city areas of Cleveland and Detroit:

change the allowable construction density; or change the residential zoning density

Ver ejemplo de ref.
http://www.ehow.co.uk/about_6388670_low-density-residential-...
Por ejemplo: Antes se permitía 1000 metros cuadrados de construcción por cada 10 metros cuadrados de área del terreno. Y lugo se cambia la desinsificación para 2000 metros cuadrados por cada 10 metros cuadrados de terreno.

My only concern re "repopulate" is that it is a little general, so it may be a good idea to change the sentence a little, e.g. "reclaim the city centre for residential housing" or "redefine the city centre using residential criteria".
