Spanish term

estos si son precios!

Non-PRO Spanish to English Other Marketing / Market Research
estos si son precios! As seen in the supermarket.

I've seen "estos si son" used here in Spain, but I don't understand.

"These if are"? No entiendo!
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (1): RichardDeegan

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

what prices! / These are really good prices!

you have to look at it as a statement, an exclamatin. The 'si" is not "if" but rather "sí¨with a ´, meaning yes.

correction: exclamation.
Peer comment(s):

agree Bailey Oliver : Good answer. Perhaps "these really are good prices" which emphasises the affirmative "are" slightly more than the adverb "really".

Now, these are good prices!

Your confusion stems from the fact that "sí" should be spelled with an accent mark over the /i/, as in "Sí", meaning "Yes."

Without the accent mark, "Si" means, indeed, "If".

Hope that helps!

these prices are the best!

It means that the prices are most likely low compared to other places.

Now, those are bargain basement prices!

Yes, the accent mark is missing - it means "yes", not "if".

It sounds like an ad/testimonial to gain the shopper's confidence and attention.

Or - "Now, those are what I'd call prices!"
Peer comment(s):

agree María Teresa Taylor Oliver : I like this option: "Now, those are what I'd call prices!" It's great. That's what I was looking for when I posted my answer. :-)

Muchas gracias, María
agree Edward Tully : yep - "now those are what I/we call prices", similar to the "Now that's what I call Music" music compilation series in the UK!

Thanks, Edward - well, don't get to say that one too often!
neutral ROBINDUNCAN : I'd say "now that's what I call [great etc.] value". "prices" doesn't sound enough like English to me.
